A question that often comes up with my patients is what they need to do to maintain their well-being after a Reiki session, until the next. So much of what I am about to say would seem like such straightforward things to do, but often what I see happening is that initially there is a period of strong self-care, that gradually lapses over time until suddenly people realize that they are in need to help again. That said, here are some thoughts on how to make the most of the benefits of your Reiki sessions, so that you continue to enjoy good health.

Drink Water.

Simple, no? Drink water regularly. No more then the average recommended 8 cups per day is needed, but so often people skip the water and will replace it with coffee, tea or other caffeinated beverages, or perhaps juice. The trouble with either case is that caffeine dehydrates the body, and juice is full of sugar. When I say drink water, I mean water, and just water. It is commonly said that humans are composed of 50 – 65% water. When we are sick, or recovering, we need to replenish those stores to keep our bodies in proper shape. It will also aid in the elimination of toxins in the body, too.

Sleep More.

Again, this seems like common sense. We live in a busy world, with too much to do and so little time, but if we don’t rest, how are our bodies supposed to regenerate themselves and recover from the daily grind? Sleep lets our muscles relax, our energies restore themselves, and lets the mind process through dreams. It is essential to physical as mental health to sleep a proper amount.

Meditate Daily.

There are so many benefits to developing a daily habit of meditation: a sense of calm and balance, inner quiet and calm, relaxation, better emotional stability. I could go on.It is also a time you set aside knowing that it is just for you, to take care of yourself and nothing else. This is essential too, to general well-being. So often we neglect our own self-care, in order to care for others, or because we feel do not have the time to do it. If you have time to watch a half an hour of television, then surely you can take 10 minutes a day to meditate. It is far less complicated then most people think! For more information about how to Meditate, see this article on the subject.

Listen to Yourself.

We have instincts for a reason. Dreams. We so often ignore these little messages and tugs from our subconscious selves in favor of trying to conform to expected actions and reactions. We are taught to ignore our own intuition as something frivolous, imaginative at best. Childish. Instead, my suggestion is to listen, to take note. Keep a journal of these feelings and signs and try to see what patterns might present themselves, what you are trying to tell yourself. These can be precious and useful.

Do Come Again!

There is no sense in dancing around the subject: we need to keep taking care of ourselves, and that does mean allowing for regular care and sessions. It is impossible to give a firm answer as to how often, as every person has a different situation or need, but it is a healthy practice to continue getting sessions with your Reiki practitioner, to keep your energies flowing freely, which in turn allows your body to do what it was made to do: heal itself.
